Stargate SG-1 - Season 2 (1998)

Season two of Stargate SG-1 continues the adventures through the Stargate and the battle against the race known as the Goa'uld. This season reveals some interesting twists surrounding the family of Teal'c, the wife of Daniel Jackson (who has been possessed by the mate of Apophis), Samantha Carter (who becomes a temporary host for a Goa'uld), and a new ally known as the Tok'ra who are leading a rebellion against the Goa'uld. But even with some interesting ongoing plot twists season two fails to exceed the first season. Almost half the episodes of season two I'd have to give only a slight above average rating because the story-lines are predictable and only average copies of similar story-lines seen on Star Trek, such as the body swapping, transforming DNA, and a strange alien organism threatening to destroy everyone so it can survive, these are all commonly used plots that have been done before and done better.

The most disappointing aspect of season two has to be the mediocre season finale. Season premiers and finales are usually the cornerstones of a season. They're the biggest productions with the largest budgets mainly due to the fact that the creators want to give the viewers a reason to start watching the season if it's a premier, or come back for the next season if it's a finale. But it's season two's finale entitled 'Out of Mind', which almost gives you reason not to want to revisit the series and is by far the worst season finale episode I have ever seen because mainly it's a clip show. Clip shows are regulars on sitcoms, a five minute story with the rest of the show filled with clips from previous episodes, but I have never seen this done in a one hour television series before and Stargate SG-1 has done it twice in only two seasons. It's a cheap way to fill an episode, and it's a really cheap way to do a season finale which should be the biggest episode of the season.
