Bond Secret File #3 - Goldfinger

Introduction: 8/10
Goldfinger has one of the best introductions of all the Bond films so far. Classic Sean Connery makes an entrance from the sea in a wet suit, sets an explosive to blow up a building, removes his wet suit to reveal a suave white dinner jacket and acts like nothing usual has just occurred, followed by a quick and entertaining fight in Bond's hotel room. It's an intro that sums up what Bond is all about in five minutes time. As for the title sequence to Goldfinger it's decent but really nothing new compared to the first two films; Shirley Eaton is the girl in with scenes being reflected on her body, she also played Jill Masterson who is the famed girl whose body Bond finds completely covered in gold paint.

Title Song: 9/10
The title song was sung by Shirey Bassey, and ironically went gold. Overall it is a very good title song and very catchy.

Goldfinger. He's the man, the man with the midas touch. A spider's touch, such a cold finger, beckons you to enter his web of sin, but don't go in.

Golden words he will pour in your ear, but his lies can't disguise what you fear, for a golden girl knows when he's kissed her, It's the kiss of death from Mister Goldfinger. Pretty girl, beware of this heart of gold, this heart is cold.

Golden words he will pour in your ear, But his lies can't disguise what you fear, for a golden girl knows when he's kissed her, It's the kiss of death from Mister Goldfinger. Pretty girl, beware of this heart of gold, this heart is cold.

He loves only gold. Only gold. He loves gold. He loves only gold. Only gold. He loves gold.

Bond: 10/10
There's really not much to say about Sean Connery's portrayal of James Bond, because he is the first and the best. In this film we are introduced to the more classic Bond moments, the white dinner coat, the car, and the usual Bond charm. The Aston Martin begins its claim to fame in this Bond film and rightly so, equipped with an ejector seat, oil slick (which was real, they had tanks in the back of the car), bullet proof shield, machine guns and much more.

Q: "If you take the top off you'll find a little red button. Whatever you do don't touch it.

Bond: "And why not?"

Q: "Because you'll release this section of the roof. And engage and then fire the passenger ejector seat. Whoosh!"

Bond: "Ejector seat you’re joking!"

Q: "I never joke about my work 007."

Main Bond Girl:
Pussy Galore: 10/10
She works for Goldfinger as the pilot of his private jet and also a partner in his plans to contaminate the United States gold supply. Played by Honor Blackman at the age of 37, she was the oldest Bond Girl. As it seems her character is actually only a small fraction of the original character from the novel, in the novel Pussy was a lesbian. This is hinted when Bond tries to charm her, and when she replies "I'm immune", well obviously not immune to Bond. She's my favorite Bond Girl out of the first three films so far, she's gorgeous, intelligent and isn't a ditz like some of the previous Bond Girls, which probably has something to do with Honor's age and the way she expressed the character.

The Villains:

Auric Goldfinger: 10/10
Goldfinger is the first real menacing villain in the Bond series, in my opinion. Gert Fröbe did not speak any English, therefore his voice in
Goldfinger is dubbed entirely by Michael Collins. Goldfinger is also the one who welds the Golden Gun which has been famed throughout the years and was very popular in the hit Bond video game Golden Eye.

Oddjob: 9/10
One of the most famous villains made popular by his enormous strength and his deadly hat, Oddjob is right up there with Jaws (not the shark) as one of the most well known Bond villains. Played by Harold Sakata who was a professional wrestler. Harold severely burnt his hands in the final scene at Fort Knox when he had to grab hold of bars surging with electricity, the director thought he was just putting forth a really performance, but turns out he got burned pretty bad and suffered through it because they didn't say cut.

Total Rating: 9.3/10
Overall (Including Film Rating): 9.2/10
9/10
