Just when you thought Mulder and Scully had rid the world of all the monsters under the bed Sam and Dean Winchester come into the picture and shine a new light on those "supernatural" beasties. The title of the show should explain it all, brothers Sam and Dean grace the small screen with a new horror story each week, as they attempt to rid the world of the supernatural evil that most people in the world believe to be myth. Along the way they continue looking to progress in their ultimate mission, to find their mothers' killer.

As young children their mother was mysteriously murdered by a demon who pinned her to the ceiling and set her on fire. This incident began their father's crusade to hunt down evil creatures not of this world in hopes of one day finding that demon and enacting some revenge. Now the hunt has been passed down to the sons as they continue their father's quest for revenge and closure.

Supernatural could be compared to a teenage version The X-Files with a touch of Smallville, if you’re a fan of either series then your sure to find some enjoyment here. Fans of Smallville will recognize Jensen Ackles who played Lana's boyfriend in Season 4. Jensen plays relatively the same character in this series as, Dean, the "ladies man" of the show with a macho streak of arrogance. On the other hand his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) is the black sheep of the family who was never interested in hunting demons and was pursuing a normal life. Unfortunately he wasn't given much of a choice when his girlfriend was murdered in the same fashion as his mother.

Overall the show is quite enjoyable. At times it becomes predictable as each episode usually entails shooting the demon or ghost with rock salt (which never works), pulling off a sure solution to eliminate something, which they think will work and never does, then finally figuring out a solution that does work. Where the show excels best is presenting a different story each week, except the few occasions when the show veers onto the father and the search for the "one" demon, then it can become rather slow and boring. But as a whole Supernatural has a solid start, and should continue to excel as long as the show continues to improve upon itself, otherwise it could get potentially old. In the end, Supernatural offers weekly campy horror, brotherly bickering, classic rock tunes and a new hot female co-star every week, what's not to like!?!

Sam and Dean get into a big argument and part company, but it's not the best time for Dean to be riding solo. Searching for some missing travelers he stumbles into a quiet little town’s big secret. Seems the town’s folk are sacrificing people to the local scarecrow, who in turn blesses them with a good crop, and Dean's its next offering!

The day has arrived when the Winchesters finally come face to face with the demon that killed their mother, but are they prepared to do what it takes to kill it if it possesses someone they love, and will they even live long enough to have the chance?

Dean gets seriously injured while on a hunt and isn't expected to live, Sam has a "leap of faith" and takes him to a man who claims to have the ability to heal. Dean is quite weary of the idea but becomes a first hand witness to the man's ability as his life is restored to him but something strange happens, Dean sees a man who looks like a reaper. It appears the healers’ gift isn't God given but controlled by black magic, a dark gift that heals one person by taking the life of another.

What's scarier than an old dilapidated asylum? How about an old dilapidated asylum haunted by a murdering doctor and patients he experimented on!

The very first episode of the series gets to a good start with a short back-story and some very compelling reasons as to why these two brothers start their journey. Their first ghost is a "Woman In White", who haunts a deserted highway at night and draws in unsuspecting men with her beauty.

8/10
