It's ironic how sometimes delving through the past of some of your favorite actor's early roles leads to discovering some gems you never knew existed. Hell Drivers is one of those films, Sean Connery's third role in a large scale motion picture. While Connery doesn't play much of a role in the story, the film itself is an enjoyable blend of action, comedy and drama, a true diamond in the rough of 1950's British cinema.

I can't believe you haven't heard of others in the film other than Connery and McGoohan. Stanley Baker lead in Zulu with Michael Cain, Sid James - Carry on, Herbert Lom, Gordon Jackson, Upstairs Downstairs, Professionals, The Great Escape, David McCallum - Colditz, The Great Escape, NCIS, Man From Uncle, Sapphire and Steel
ReplyDelete@Steve - I hadn't at the time this review was written (which was almost two years ago) this was about the time I started getting into watching more cult films from Britain and Italy. Since then I've watched more British films and become more familiar with Stanley Baker and Herbert Lom. Seeing I hadn't watched very many old British films prior to this review it's really not hard to believe I wouldn't have heard of them as the were really only staples in British cinema, they didn't branch out like Connery.
