After a well done first season the creators of Lost attempt to baffle the audience with a Season 2 that almost appears the writers want to kill the show early. Season 2 starts out with by far some of the best episodes of the season, and then quickly begins to spiral downwards with the introduction of the "Tailies", the other passengers of the Oceanic flight who had been in the tail section of the plane. It's my belief these "Tailies" were added into the show only to test the loyalty of the viewers and see how far the writers could possibly piss you off, and yet still keep you sucked in to the show to the point you'll sit through whatever torture they threw your way... I guess they proved they have us suckered.
The "Tailies" add absolutely nothing to continuing Lost storyline, they simply waste four early episodes and become a continual annoyance. The worst person in the "Tailies" group is by far the character of Ana-Lucia Cortez played by Michelle Rodriquez. She's a butch ex-cop who makes herself leader of the rag tag survivors and is incredibly annoying from the get go. She's so annoying that by the middle of the season I almost stopped watching, and I don't think it would be a stretch to say she's probably one of the most hated characters in TV history. With her involvement in the series I was no longer getting any enjoyment out of the show. To make matters worse Jack, Sawyer, Sayid and Locke all began to turn into incredible wusses, never standing up for anything or anyone and usually screwing things up even more by being too trusting or just plain stupid. The whole button pushing storyline was sorely played out, and I literally wanted someone to line Anna-Lucia and that horrible excuse for a human being, Michael, up against a tree and shoot them in the head. They did absolutely nothing but piss me off the entire season, and the rest of the survivors let them do whatever they wanted.
For the most part Season 2 is full of more bad memories than good for me. Too much of the season is ruined by creating new characters and storylines that ultimately went nowhere, I think the writers finally got the picture which is why the "Tallies" storyline is ultimately tossed by the end of the season. Overall, Season 2 does shine in the first four episodes, a couple in the middle, and few before the end but overall it's a season you end up suffering through so you know what's going on in Season 3. Word of advice, fast forward through a majority of the flashbacks and the Ana Lucia scenes, you'll not be "lost" if you bypass them and you'll enjoy the season a whole lot more. The flashbacks take up way too much of the episodes and you can usually gain the jest of what the point is in half the time it takes the writers to explain it. In the end, Season 2 is the torture you must endure for the reward, which is Season 3, a season that will blow you away!
